Privacy Policy for Green Tome
Last updated: 17 August 2026
This privacy policy explains how Green Tome (“the app”), developed by Cinza Apps (“we”, “us”), handles your data. By using the app you agree to the practices described below.
TL;DR
- Green Tome stores your plants, care logs, and photos only on your device. We do not have a backend that holds your data.
- We use Google Firebase to understand app crashes, performance, and aggregate usage. This collects anonymous diagnostic data — not your plant names, photos, or care logs.
- There are no user accounts, no ads, and no third-party trackers beyond Firebase.
1. Data you enter
Plant names, selected species, care-log timestamps (e.g. last watered), and any photos you attach are stored locally on your device using Android's Room database and the device's file system. This data:
- Never leaves your device.
- Is removed when you uninstall the app or clear its data from Android settings.
- Is not accessible to us. We cannot recover it if you uninstall.
2. Diagnostic data we collect via Firebase
Green Tome uses three Google Firebase services:
- Firebase Analytics — collects anonymous usage events (app opens, screen views), device model, OS version, language, country, and a Firebase-generated anonymous app instance ID. We use this to understand which features get used.
- Firebase Crashlytics — when the app crashes or freezes, sends a stack trace, device model, OS version, app version, and an anonymous installation UUID. We use this to find and fix bugs.
- Firebase Performance Monitoring — collects app start time, screen render times, and timings of network calls the app makes (currently only to Firebase itself).
This data is processed by Google on our behalf. See Google's privacy documentation: firebase.google.com/support/privacy.
We never send Firebase your plant names, photos, care logs, or any content you create in the app.
3. Permissions the app requests
Green Tome asks you for no permissions at all.
Adding a photo to a plant doesn't need one:
- Choosing an existing picture uses Android's system photo picker, which hands the app only the single image you select. The app never gets access to your photo library.
- Taking a new picture hands off to your device's camera app, which returns the photo. Green Tome does not declare the camera permission, so Android never prompts you for it.
Either way, the photo is stored locally on your device and we don't upload it anywhere.
The only permission in the app's manifest is internet access, used solely for the Firebase diagnostics described in section 2. Green Tome also explicitly removes the advertising-ID permission that Firebase would otherwise add, because the app has no ads.
4. Children
Green Tome is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect data from children. If you believe a child has used the app, contact us and we will help you delete any local data (which lives only on the device anyway).
5. Your rights (GDPR, CCPA, and similar)
Because we don't run a backend with your data, the simplest way to exercise data-protection rights is from your device:
- Access / portability — your plant data lives in the app itself.
- Deletion — uninstalling the app or clearing app data deletes everything we'd have access to.
- Opt out of analytics — clear app data, or contact us and we can walk you through disabling analytics collection.
For Firebase-collected diagnostic data tied to your anonymous installation ID, email us at the address below and we will request deletion from Google.
6. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as the app evolves. The “Last updated” date at the top reflects the most recent change. Material changes will be announced in-app.
